RCA MI Numbers
Microphone Manufacturing Instructions (MI)
This MI listing is compiled from extractions of the RCA engineering MDS specification sheets and from various RCA audio catalogs and other engineering documents as well.
This listing is for production released microphones sold in broadcast, film, and commercial sound applications. Revision letters following the MI numbers are listed when there is a known form, fit, or function difference.
It is intended as an information guide providing a collectors guide for RCA production mics.
Suggestions For Use
When no comma is noted, it means that the item appeared as that number as well as any subsequent letters with commas. Any additional letters at the end of an MI number usually signify a revision whether it be cable length or different parts, manufacturing process or color. Where no entry exists in a column, no designation was used or found.
This compilation is not intended to be a complete treatise on RCA mic production, but merely a resource to support the SilPix in the gallery. This body of work undoubtably contains some errors and/or omissions. Any verifiable corrections or additions would be gladly accepted.
