RM-5C Uniaxial Cardioid Ribbon Microphone

After spanning 50 years of meritorious professional audio performance, the RCA Uniaxial BK-5 evolves into a state-of-the-art microphone by Silvia Classics^®. This new SC-5C technology offers a dependable, high-quality instrument providing a smooth 30 to 18,000 Hz, essentially flat. Its wide frequency range makes it ideal for both voice and music providing a rich and robust sound.

Originally designed and named the Silvia Classics SC-5C in its inception; it was later changed to the RM-5C after an agreement with Telefunken/USA for exclusive distribution rights to the microphone.  It is the exact same product but with a number and color change.

The Silvia Classics^® SC-5C/RM-5C^© Uniaxial cardioid ribbon microphone embodies the latest technologies to provide the most accurate and superior sound to date in a ribbon microphone. While most ribbon manufacturers offer simple bi-directional patterns which do not provide directional control from their sound source, our ribbon microphone allows full prejudice only a true cardioid can provide.

The sound is crystal clear from the deep lows to brilliant highs. There is very little proximity effect and darkness as found in most other ribbon microphones. This allows our ribbon mic to employ condenser-like sonics without the common problems of high-end “splash” and diminished bass.

Modern thinking and new materials have allowed Silvia Classics to utilize basic engineering concepts and give fresh direction to this microphone to sound superior for modern critical recording. Each ribbon is laid in solely by the staff at our labs in Santa Cruz, CA.
